Vero Beach and Fort Pierce approached record-highs in temperature Sunday, while Central Florida broke records.
The January heat wave on the Treasure Coast may not have broken records like it did in Central Florida on Sunday, but it came awfully close.
Both Vero Beach and Fort Pierce saw high temperatures — 10 degrees greater than typical weather for the day.
In Vero Beach, it fell short of the record by 3 degrees and in Fort Pierce it fell short by 4 degrees, according to data from the National Weather Service.
In Fort Pierce it climbed to 83 degrees, short of the record-high 87, set in 1913. The average temperature for the day is 73 degrees.

In Vero, it rose to 82 degrees, below the record-high 85 degrees, set in 2018 and 1975. The typical temperature for the day is 72 degrees.
The lows in both cities also were warmer than usual. Both Vero Beach, low of 69 degrees, and Fort Pierce, low of 68, were 18 degrees higher than normal.

Records in the region were set in: Orlando, 86 degrees, breaking 85 degrees, set in 1972 and 1925; Sanford, 85 degrees, breaking 84 degrees, set in 1993; and Leesburg, 84 degrees, breaking 83 degrees, set in 2013 and 1963.
On the Treasure Coast, temperature highs are expected to remain in the low 80s through the beginning of the week. Lows could drop close to 60 degrees.
